Matthew Newcomb Shihan started training in 1983 and is the chief instructor at the Mugenkan and leads all Aikido Classes, as well as co-teaching the Kenjutsu and Japanese Jujutsu classes.
Newcomb Shihan is internationally licensed by MSI (Martial Sciences International) and holds the rating of 7th Dan in Sogobujutsu, 5th Dan in Kenjutsu, and 3rd Dan in Yoshinkai Aikido along with advanced ratings and certifications in many other systems in and outside of MSI.
Kevin Hough Shihan started training in Martial Sciences in 1978 while attending Central Michigan University. He joined MSI and the Sei Shin Kan in 1993, training primarily in Kenjutsu. He holds Shihan Menkyo (International License), 8th Dan Sogobujutsu, 8th Dan Sogo Kenjutsu along with several other ranks in systems in and outside of MSI.
Kirk Rehn Shihan started training in 1980. He joined MSI and the Sei Shin Kan in 1996, training in Ju Jutsu & Kenjutsu. He holds a Shihan International teaching license, 8th Dan Sogobujutsu, 7th Dan Sogo Kenjutsu, 7th Dan Tang Soo Do, 2nd Dan Ju Jutsu along with several other ranks in systems in and outside of MSI.
Ciprian Robu Shihan started training in 1982, having studied fencing, followed by Karate, and then Aikido. He joined the MSI and the Sei Shin Kan in 1997, training primarily in Kenjutsu and Bukijutsu. He holds a Menkyo Shihan (teaching license), 7th Dan Sogo Kenjutsu, and 7th Dan Sogobujutsu.
Viol Shihan is the appointed Director of Martial Sciences International, the International Sogobujutsu Federation, and the United States Martial Tactical Association. Mr. Viol began training in Martial Sciences in 1967 and has lived in Japan training as Uchi Deshi, and spent 20 years overseas where he consulted for members of elite military, law enforcement, and dignitary protection services. During his extensive training in Asia, he earned numerous ranks in several martial disciplines. In 1991, he was awarded Menkyokaiden – the highest level bestowed in classical martial systems. He is the highest-ranked classical weaponry instructor in North America.
